Front Safety Belt Height Adjustment
The driver and front passenger can adjust the height of the shoulder belt so the belt rests across the middle of thier shoulder. Simply press the button on the adjuster, and lower or raise the adjuster to fit your size. After making the adjustment, the button should release and the adjust should be locked in place. Pull your safety belt to be sure the ajuster is in the locked position.

Belt Minder Deactivation
The Belt Minder is the electronic warning system to remind you to use your safety belt system. It's a combination of a sounding chime and the illuminating warning light on your instrument panel. By default, the Belt Minder is active. When active, if the driver's safety belt is not buckled in about 5 seconds from the time the warning light has turned off, the warning light will again illuminate and the alarm chime will sound for 6 seconds, repeating itself every 30 seconds for the next 5 minutes, or until you buckle your seat belt.

NOTE: You and your passengers should always wear the seat belts!

You can De-Activate the Belt Minder two ways. First, you can deactivate it temporarily for your current "run cycle", that is after you have started your car and it's still running. Second, you completely deactivate the Belt Minder so that it never reminds you again, or at least until your reactivate it...

The first method, temporary deactivation, or one time disable: After you have started your vehicle, buckle and then un-buckle your safety belt. Be sure to buckle back up.... This will disable the Belt Minder only for that ignition cycle.

The second method, permanent deactivation: There are 9 steps you need to follow to deactivate or activate your Belt Minder system. Before doing so, make sure that:

  • The partking brake is set.
  • The car is in Park(automatic), Neutral(manual).
  • The ignition is OFF.
  • All doors are closed.
  • The driver's safety belt is un-buckled.
  • The Focus parking and Focus headlights are OFF.

Then follow these 9 steps:

  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON, but DO NOT START.
  2. Wait for the safety belt warning light to go OFF(1-2 minutes).
  3. Steps 3-5 MUST be completed within 60 seconds!

  4. Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
  5. Turn on the headlights, turn off the headlights.
  6. Buckle, then un-buckle the driver's safety belt 3 times, ending with the belt un-buckled.
  7. After step 5, the Safety Belt Warning Light will be turned on for 3 seconds.

  8. Within 7 seconds of the safety belt warning light turning OFF, buckle then un-buckle the safety belt.
  9. This will disable the Belt Minder if it is currently enabled, or enable the Belt Minder if it is currently disabled.

  10. Confirmation of the disabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds.
  11. Confirmation of the enabling of the Belt Minder is provided by flashing the safety belt warning light 4 times per seconds for 3 seconds, followed by 3 seconds with the safety belt light off, then followed by flashing the safety belt light 4 times per second for 3 seconds again.
  12. After confirmation, the deactivation/activation of the Belt Minder procedure is complete.

Whew!

Fuel Shut Off Switch Fuel Pump Shut-Off Switch
In the event of an accident the emergency fuel shut off switch may activate. If your car's engine cranks, but will not start, you should try resetting this switch. Do so only with your ignition in the "off" position and after you have determined there are no fuel leaks. The switch is located on the front passenger's foot area, behind what is called the "kick panel".

Interior Luggage Compartment Release(Emergency Exit)
You've probably seen the commercial on TV, the Focus trapped in a parking spot so tight, the occupants cannot open the doors. What do they do? They escape out the trunk!

Depending on the Focus model, the "T" shaped handle is located on the luggage compartment door lid, or near the Focus tail lights. The handle is made with a glow in the dark material which will illuminate the handle if it has been briefly exposed to ambient light. Simply pull the handle to open your trunk from the inside.

NOTE: Children should be taught to NOT play in vehicles. Keep your vehicles doors and trunk locked and your keys out of reach of children!
